3 Tips for Making a Good First Impression
We spend more and more time at our offices everyday. If we are lucky, our friends from work become our friends outside work. More importantly, our colleagues can become a great source of support and help us achieve our best.
Have you thought about how you want to be received at your new office? It’s important that you try to make a good first impression because that’s how people will think of you through your tenure at that job.
For that, here are 3 tips for making a good first impression:
Be willing to introduce yourself to others
On your first day, or when you meet someone new at work, be friendly and say Hi. You don’t need to wait for the other person to make the first move. Not only does this show that you are approachable, but also that you are confident.
Keep a smile on your face
It might be stressful to be new in the workplace, and a hundred thoughts may be running through your mind. But, if you allow these to affect you too much, and bring a frown to your face, people will think you are stuck-up or dull.
Keep negative thoughts from affecting your impression on others. Smile and the world will smile with you.
Offer to share your lunch
Food is a wonderful way to bond with anyone. Nobody can resist the lure of a fragrant and tasty meal. So, for the first few days you can take all the best home-cooked food you can make, and then invite your team to share it with you.
You don’t have to offer to share your food with very senior people, unless they ask. With them it’s better to let them show interest first as a professional distance needs to be maintained.
Just these few simple things can have a very positive impact on your role, and people will always be friendly and open to you. Remember, that these have to come from your heart and you should not try to fake it. Be genuinely friendly, and be that way with everyone, all the time.
It’s always better to have positive energy in the workplace, since then you can perform your best and truly build great teamwork. Your presence will be appreciated by one and all.
There are also some ways that you can end up making a bad impression. Find out what to avoid by reading this article.
