PM Narendra Modi has announced the Digital India Campaign which is expected to create around 18 Lakh new Jobs

The Digital India Campaign was launched with great fanfare by PM Narendra Modi on the 1st of July, 2015. The campaign is an ambitious project planned by the government which aims to provide government services to citizens electronically thus reducing the paperwork. To achieve this, it has plans to bring high speed internet to rural areas thus making it possible for every Indian to use the internet. In his own words, PM Modi said “I dream of Digital India where 1.2 billion connected Indians drive the nation” which sums up the whole initiative in a nutshell.

The Rs 1.13 lakh crore Digital India campaign has seen a pledging of Rs 4.5 lakh crore by the corporate giants in India including Reliance Industries, Aditya Birla group and the Vedanta group. It is estimated that it will generate employment for about 18 lakh citizens. After USA, India has the largest user base of Google and Facebook which shows the enormous potential of internet in India. It is estimated that more than 10 million people compete every year to get employed. Now the question here is how internet can be used as a medium to connect between the millions of potential job seekers and the employers effectively?
