Interview Questions that You Should Ask the Recruiter

We often think of job interviews as Q&A sessions wherein the interviewer asks you certain questions to which you respond. Preparing for a job interview, however, should involve more than just thinking about your answers to the basic interview questions. One of the best ways to stand out among other candidates is to ask your recruiter some relevant questions. This is a great way of letting the recruiter know that you are interested in the company and your role rather than in simply getting hired.

Here are some of the questions that you can ask the recruiter during the interview as and when it seems appropriate.

1. How can I be a good addition to your team?

The ideal employee is always open to working with others. By asking the recruiter this question, you will demonstrate your willingness to work as part of a team. If the company that you are applying to encourages collaborative work, this question will be an especially useful one to ask.

2. Who will I be working with in this role?

The people you work with have a significant impact on your productivity and creativity. It is a good idea to get to know a little more about the people you will be working with if you get the job. This, too, will indicate that you are open to working in a team.

3. How will I help the company achieve its goals?

By asking how you can contribute to the company’s success, you will indicate that you care about more than just your personal success. In order to better understand the company’s goals, remember to do your research on the same before the interview.

4. Can you tell me more about the company’s culture?

Every company has its own unique culture, which is signified by the work environment, dress code, interactions between co-workers, etc. Asking to know more about the culture of the company will mean that you are willing to make an effort to fit into the company and the role.

While you it is a good idea to ask the interviewer the four aforementioned questions, you must also make sure NEVER to ask the following three questions during an interview.

5. What exactly will I do here?

The interviewer expects you to have a basic idea of what the job entails before you even apply for it. Asking such a question during the interview will create a very poor impression. Of course, you could ask for more details on the scope of the role if you need further information.

6. Can I work from home instead?

If the role allows you to work from home, you will be informed of that during the hiring process. Asking your employer this question will send out the message that you are more concerned about your own convenience than about your work.

7. How many holidays can I take?

All jobs make provisions for holidays. While it is important for you to know how much time you will be able to take off in the year, the interview is not the right time to ask that question.

Very often, recruiters give you a chance to ask them any questions that you may have about the job. Asking the right questions at the right time is one of best ways to make an impression during the interview
