Poor English hinders Career Growth for many Indian students
Speaking and understanding English well increases your chances of getting a great job that promises a bright future
According to a Times Group news article, it has been found that poor English gets in the way of career growth for many Indian students despite of them being qualified otherwise. This is especially true for students in rural areas and the ones from smaller towns as their living environment is not conducive to English conversation.
Most students do their schooling in the vernacular medium and the sudden change in the medium of teaching into English at college leaves them in the lurch. And this very discomfort with the language acts a major stumbling block especially while looking for a new job.
In order to address this issue, various soft skill training centers and English training institutes have come up in various parts of the country. In fact, even some regular colleges too have recognized this need and are offering communication and soft skill programs.
Ajay Sharma, who recently graduated from Bareilly, says, “Although I am able to clear most of the qualifying tests, I often face difficulty during face-to-face interviews and group discussions due to my poor English conversation.”
On the same note, Harmeet Sethi, a soft skill trainer opines, “I feel so disheartened to see knowledgeable and skilled candidates getting rejected due to poor language skills. However the good part is that this challenge can be addressed through proper guidance and training.”
