When Life Gives You One Extra Day!
Isn’t it resoundingly true that life is but a race against time?
No matter how well we manage our hours, days, and years, we could all do with a little bit of extra time. So, when 2016 comes around and gives us an extra day, what should we spend it on?
Quite like prized savings, Leap Day i.e. February 29th, is a precious day. It’s a brand new day that has come after four years of wait. Surely we don’t want to spend it doing the kinds of things we do everyday!
Here are some things you could do on Leap Day to ensure that you have a great year ahead!
Reflect: We’re already two months into the New Year. This is a good time to take a step back from your hectic routine and see what the year has been like for you. Have you been able to keep up with your New Year’s Resolutions? What are some things that you would like to change about yourself so that you can have a better year ahead?
Organize: Take this extra day as an opportunity to organize your life. Whether it is your wardrobe, your desk, or your daily routine, get started by getting organized. Neatening up your life and surroundings allows you to be in control of your time and situation and also gives you a sense of what you need to do ahead.
Plan: Set some short-term and long-term goals for yourself. These could be career goals and other life goals. The goals could have to do with small things like cleaning your car regularly, being thriftier with finances, or getting your dream job. Planning helps put your life into perspective.
Rejuvenate: Everyone deserves some time off. Come February 29th, you can stop waiting for the weekend or for your next vacation to rejuvenate. Disconnect from the onslaught of social media to help yourself unwind. Watch a movie, read a book, take a unique short trip, go out to your favourite café or spend time with loved ones. Create your own idea of rejuvenation and spend the day doing just that. A day spent relaxing is always a day well spent!
Do that one thing you’ve always wanted to do: We all seem to have that mental list (because we’re too scared to even jot these things down!) of things we’ve always wanted to do. They could be adventurous activities like deep-sea diving or paragliding, or they could daring ones like cycling your way across the country, coming out about your love for someone, signing up for unusual classes, moving to another city, applying for that one job you’ve always wanted, and so on. For just about anything that you’ve been meaning to do, today is the day.
When the calendar gives you February 29th, promise yourself to start over!
